Artificial Intelligence and Thesis Writing
The process of writing a thesis requires both the ability to generate original content and well-structured arguments, as well as a broad understanding of the field of study and the research methodologies used.
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) and technologies assisted by it, such as ChatGPT or similar services, can be useful tools for thesis writing, but they must be used with caution, awareness of their limitations, and transparency.
In the case of using AI to improve language and readability, to organize the text by generating outlines and schemes to guide the writing, or for the analysis of large amounts of data, it is important that the contribution provided by AI is recognizable and still subject to critical reworking and personal revision. To avoid plagiarism, moreover, in a thesis, it is essential to include bibliographic references and external sources to which a section of text refers, a task that is often difficult in the case of texts generated by AI.
Therefore, extreme caution is suggested when using AI, and if it has been used in the writing of the thesis, it is requested to include a dedicated section at the end of the thesis specifying how and in which parts of the thesis AI was used and taking full responsibility for the contents.
